Description
Up for bid is a antique Magic Lantern made by The Ernst Plank Company in Germany about 1900 (AKA Planck). The Magic Lantern was the first projector. Inside the lantern is a metal oil lamp with 2 wicks, two wheels for adjusting them can be accessed by a side door with a latch to hold the door closed. The top of the oil lamp is enclosed by a glass front and metal sides, inside, behind that is metal with a hole in it and a glass lens in front of that. Wood base, The lens will extend out, further than the photo by turning the wheel adjustment rod. There is a big wheel on one side--a bit lose, I think it requires a belt which drives the wheel at the back of the lens, handle missing from large wheel. All the glass is in perfect condition. It appears all the parts are intact, except what I mentioned, but I am no expert. Amazing condition. Two rare round slides included!! Included with the Magic Lantern is a frame holding a round glass slide (chromotrope) mounted on a piece of wood with a metal rod coming from it--used to spin the slide--also included is a second round glass slide. When the round slides are viewed the middle section would whirl in one direction--the outer edge would appear to whirl in the opposite direction. Like a fast spinning kaleidoscope. (The wood handle is missing from the rod but can still be operated.) The main color of the outside of the Magic Lantern is a dark green which has slightly darken from use and age, the photos look gray--but it is dark green. The box is 9" high X 7" X 5", with the smoke stack and wood base it is 16" tall. The weight of the lantern is 9 lbs. Payment or arrangements are expected within 48 hours of auctions end. I accept cashier's checks, money orders (10 days to clear), personal checks (10 days to clear), and Paypal. Buyer pays postage and $1.50 for packaging and handling; Insurance if requested. Will ship worldwide. Please feel free to send me a email if you have any questions or would like more photos. 6% sales tax to Connecticut residents. May return item within 10 days if not as described. Shipping is expensive these days for large boxes--I will ship in the smallest box possible, but I have to allow space for peanuts to protect the item. Sometimes I go to the post office and find it is too expensive, then I go to UPS and usually large boxes are cheaper to ship. You can be assured of safety of the item, and the most reasonable shipping price. Thanks for looking, good luck!
